infinite number of faces the masks we wear

There I was, sitting at one of my favorite coffee-shops in San Francisco – Four Barrel. Chrome backpack on the floor, blue Skillcraft pen in hand, with my confidant notebook spread out and an iced-coffee to my left. I quickly studied the room and took note of the architecture, people, sights, and sounds. The smell of roasting coffee permeated every inch of the joint. That’s when I happened to see one of the baristas smile briefly at a customer bussing his table. However, as quickly as this sweet smile came, it disappeared. It got me thinking about the faces we all have for different situations. We walk around with faces for everything because our faces have a habit of betraying our true emotions.

We wear faces like  we wear masks. They’re all for different things and they all serve different purposes. Just like different people bring out different sides of our personality, we often reach into our bags and put on the one mask that we want others to see. If this is the case, how do we know when people are wearing masks or when people are walking around au naturel? We don’t.

That’s the one thing about people – they surprise you when you least expect it.
