I’m no good at arts & crafts and I have no experience with leather, so when I decided I wanted something to keep all of my fountain pens together, I naturally went to Amazon. I’ve always kept my pens in the case my Pelikan M150 medium nib fountain pen came in. The great thing about a hard case is that it protects quite well. The downside: it’s pretty rigid and takes up a whole lot of space. Additionally, I could only fit about three of my pens in the hard case.
I’m pretty easy to please, so I went with one of the cheapest wraps I could find that would suit my needs. The three factors going through my mind were: price, function, and aesthetics. I had already decided I wanted something brown and leathery as opposed to something made out of pure cloth. I also knew I wanted to spend less than $20 on it. In terms of function, anything with restraints for my pens and a clasp or buckle to keep the whole wrap from unfurling. Here’s my new pencil wrap with my first impressions.
Amazon said it was the Cosmos Brown PU Leather Vintage Rollup Style Multiple Purpose Soft Pencil Case Bag, but the wording on the box it came in called it the Sevenroll Pencil Case - made in Korea. I found it on another site and their description says it’s made of cow leather, with the inside pockets made from synthetic leather.
- It smells amazing. The details, down to the stitching is pretty good.
- The wrap is super soft and rolls out to be about a legal sized piece of paper.
- The zippered pocket is a nice touch and lets me to store extra ink cartridges.
- The places for my pens are adequate, but not the best. The synthetic leather is super soft and malleable, almost like pigskin gloves if you’ve ever worn those and most of my pens have super strong clips. I’m afraid of ripping the leather to shreds at this point.
- It wraps up nice and tight and keeps all my pens together. I currently have 7 pens and a few cartridges in it and it’s not bulky at all.
